New Hampshire Passes Legislation to Restrict Synthetic Drug Production
Synthetic
drugs, or designer drugs, have become a big problem here in the United States.
With designer drugs, such as flakka, causing quite a stir in Florida and a
handful of other states, it is becoming a headache for law enforcement and the
public alike. Many states are scrambling to figure out how to combat this
situation.
New
Hampshire recently passed legislation, restricting the production and
distribution of synthetic drugs. This is in attempt to combat the increased
drug addiction problem that is affecting this New England state. Several of its
towns have already banned the distribution of bath salts, K2, and spice.
However, the bill that passed on Wednesday will make the production and
distribution illegal statewide.
Now that it has passed, the Governor's Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery has to recommend ideas for making the public aware of the effects and dangers surrounding synthetic drugs.
The House and Senate made this move after 40 individuals in Manchester, New Hampshire experienced adverse reactions to synthetic cannabinoid use. Governor Maggie Hassan declared a state of emergency last summer, following the reports.

of the bill are making the public aware of the dangers of using synthetic
drugs. They stress that the effects can be dangerous and unpredictable, due to
the fact that it is difficult to know what is in the synthetic drugs.
This bill does provide a list of banned ingredients and there is a process in place where they can add more ingredients to the list as they become known. The opponents of the bill, however, stress that the restriction will be difficult to enforce, since it may encourage individuals to use illegal measures to obtain the drugs.

to the bill, retailers that are caught selling these designer drugs will lose
their license and face a fine up to $1,000. Those who are caught possessing or
selling designer drugs will be fined up to $500 per day.
